How do I create a team?
The first person to register will be designated the team captain. This person creates the team name, automatically receives updates when someone joins the team, and can check the team roster at any time. Share the team name and wave start time with your teammates and have them join your team when they register (they must click the TEAMS/REPORT and select the team while registering). There's no limit to how many athletes are on a team.
How to I manage my team?
If you are the team captain for a group, you will be able to log in and edit certain details pertaining to the group setup and members. Group management is explained in this help section.
Are teams required to finish together?
Team members are not required to finish the course together. While we place an emphasis on teamwork and camaraderie, City Challenge Race leaves this decision at each team member's sole discretion.
Can I change my start time after I register?
Yes, you can update your registration and wave time as explained here.
What is the minimum participation age?
Athletes must be 12 years old to participate in City Challenge Race. Due to liability and for insurance reasons we strictly enforce this rule. However, we host Youth City Challenge Race events throughout the year. This is a fun and challenging event for kids ages 6-11 years old and consists of 1-2-mile obstacle course that your kids will love!
Is there a military discount & how do I use it?

Can I pay my registration fee with a check?
Yes, our registration system has the option to mail a check, but your registration won't be confirmed until it has been received and deposited. You can also use a check if registering same day. Please make checks payable to City Challenge Race LLC.
Is there are time limit to finish the challenge?
No, there is no time limit to finish the course. Athletes are permitted to walk the course. When running in the last wave there is a 2-hour time limit to finish (Jersey City and Hoboken courses only).
Can I go around an obstacle or will I must do burpees?
You will not be forced to participate in anything you do not feel comfortable with. We encourage all participants to compete at their comfort level. If you are unable to participate in a specific obstacle 30 jump squats are suggested as a substitute. To see a list of obstacles, click here.
Can I pick up my pack on race day?
Yes, you can pick up your packet on race day. However, early packet pick up is strongly suggested to avoid delays on race morning. If you are picking up on race day, please arrive to the venue 1 hour before your scheduled start time.
Will it be easy to get lost on the race course?
No, our courses are clearly marked so you will know which direction to run. There will also be volunteers and designated course marshals to keep athletes in the correct direction.
Can a fellow challenger help me conquer an obstacle?
Absolutely! Even though Challengers are crazy, they have spectacular sportsmanship and we encourage team work!
Can I register the day of the event?
Yes, online registration will be cut off on the Thursday before race day. Same day registration will be open ($100 cash or check only).
What should I do when I arrive on race day?
Go to registration/ check in. Located at the big, orange and white REGISTRATION Tent. You will pick up your racing bib, t-shirt, and timing chip. Enjoy the pre-race festival and wait for your start time.
What if I miss my start time?
If you miss your start time, we'll make every effort to put you in a later wave. If you arrive after the last wave you will not be able to run.
What if it is raining on race day?The race will not be canceled for rain! This is City Challenge Race, not a tea party at the retirement home. If there's lightning, we'll delay waves until it passes.
What if I get hurt during the race?
There will be paramedics at the race and on course. In case of injuries do not continue to race look for a City Challenge Race staff member who can get aid. The first aid tents will be clearly marked and situated near the finish line.
What awards are given?
The first place male and female finishers in the elite wave and the top 3 teams receive awards. The team awards are based on the top 5 finishers of a team. Biggest Team is recognized with a plaque, tent where they can meet before and after the race, cooler with drinks and snacks, and team banner inside the tent.
Will there be gear or bag check on race day?
Yes, the cost for the bag check will be $5 per individual bag / item.
Are there water stations on the course?
Yes, we will have 1 water station near the half way point.
Will there be refreshments for challengers after the race?
Yes, our sponsors spoil our athletes with coconut water, protein drinks, and more at the finish line. We will also have water and bananas for everyone near the finish line and festival!
Is City Challenge race difficult?
City Challenge Race is a challenge but not impossible. You will make it to the finish. It's going to be FUN and a memorable experience for you and your entire team!
How will I know how fast I ran?
Your race bib includes a timing chip so everyone is timed! The chip has an identification number that corresponds to each athlete. When participants cross the electronic equipment at the start and finish line, the time is automatically recorded. You can view your time on race day and online.
Will I be able to participate even if I'm in bad shape and don't exercise regularly?
Yes, conquering The Challenge is 90% how mentally tough you are more than how physically fit you are. Your resiliency will push you to the finish!
Where can my friends and family photograph me?
There is no fee for spectators. We encourage friends and family to attend and encourage City Challengers. Our events are staffed with professional photographers who will provide quality photos of all athletes at no cost. Friends and family can take great photos at the finish or festival area.
How is City Challenge race structured?
Waves of runners leave every 15 minutes, starting at 9 a.m. and ending around 2 p.m. You choose your start time when you register. Waves are limited to 200 athletes to prevent back-ups on the course. The most popular waves (900am to 1030am) often sell out quickly. If you are running with a team of 10 or more, please avoid these waves.
How do I train for City Challenge race?
It's best to focus on a total-body workout (push-ups, pull ups, squats and lunges are great exercises to practice) with an emphasis on short-distance running with sprint intervals. Will race photos be posted online?
Yes, City Challenge Race will email you your photos within 48 hours of the race. We will also post the most extreme pictures on our website and social media platforms. Post your photos and videos on social media using #CITYCHALLENGERACE and we will repost!
When is the registration deadline?
Check your event page to find out when registration closes. However, we almost always sell out, so if you wait too long you might miss out. The registration price increases as the event gets closer. Signing up early will save you money and make it easier to recruit friends!
What will I take home from the race?
Every athlete will take a City Challenge Race gift bag, with a dri-fit finishers shirt, finishers medal, free stuff from our sponsors, and tons of new friends that are just as crazy as you are!
Where can I park?
We created City Challenge Race, in part, so that our athletes did not have to drive hours to compete in a first-class OCR. Mass transit is available to get to any of our events. If you are driving however there are different parking options for every venue. Our Facebook event page has more info and prior to race day we will email you these as well.
